Several studies have shown the positive effects of Ti either with nanotopography or coated with collagen on osteoblast differentiation. Thus, we hypothesized that the association of nanotopography with collagen may increase the in vitro osteogenesis on Ti surface. Ti discs with nanotopography with or without collagen coating were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. Rat calvaria-derived osteoblastic cells were cultured on both Ti surfaces for up to 14 days and the following parameters were evaluated: cell proliferation, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, extracellular matrix mineralization, protein expression of bone sialoprotein (BSP) and osteopontin (OPN), and gene expression of collagen type 1a (Coll1a), runt-related transcription factor 2 (Runx2), osterix (OSX), osteocalcin (OC), Ki67, Survivin, and Bcl2-associated X protein (BAX). Surface characterization evidenced that collagen coating did not alter the nanotopography. Collagen coating increased cell proliferation, ALP activity, extracellular matrix mineralization, and Coll1a, OSX, OC, and BAX gene expression. Also, OPN and BSP proteins were strongly detected in cultures grown on both Ti surfaces. In conclusion, our results showed that the combination of nanotopography with collagen coating stimulates the early, intermediate, and final events of the in vitro osteogenesis and may be considered a potential approach to promote osseointegration of Ti implants.

The betaLAP exposure to light accelerated the drug degradation about 140 fold, compared with the samples stored in the absence of light. The hydrolysis produced hydroxylapachol as the main degradation product. The photolysis yielded phthalic acid, 6-hydroxy-3methylene-3H-isobenzofuran-1-one and a benzomacrolactone together with a complex mixture of other phthalate-derivatives such as 2-(2-carboxy-acetyl)-benzoic acid. Conclusions This study provides useful information for the development of betaLAP dosage forms, their storage, manipulation and quality control.

In addition, kinetic experiments were performed which indicate that this class of inhibitor is tight binding, reversible, and appears not to reduce the active-site ferric ion.

Moreover, the favorable metabolic stability in rat liver microsomes supports future studies in in vivo models of dopamine system dysregulation.

Selective alpha-oxidation of ethers under aerobic conditions is a long-pursued transformation; however, a green and efficient catalytic version of this reaction remains challenging. Herein, we report a new family of iron catalysts capable of promoting chemoselective alpha-oxidation of a range of ethers with excellent mass balance and high turnover numbers under 1 atm of O2 with no need for any additives. Unlike metalloenzymes and related biomimetics, the catalyst produces H2 as the only byproduct. Mechanistic investigations provide evidence for an unexpected two-step reaction pathway, which involves dehydrogenative incorporation of O2 into the ether to give a peroxobisether intermediate followed by cleavage of the peroxy bond to form two ester molecules, releasing stoichiometric H2 gas in each step. The operational simplicity and environmental friendliness of this methodology affords a useful alternative for performing oxidation, while the unique ability of the catalyst in oxygenating a substrate via dehydrogenation points to a new direction for understanding metalloenzymes and designing new biomimetic catalysts.
