Nowadays, urged by the high demand to reduce paper consumption, rewritable paper receives more and more attention. However, it is a great challenge to conveniently fabricate the rewritable paper which has long legible time of information and is easy to use simultaneously. Here, we report a new type of long-lasting rewritable paper based on color-memorizing thermochromic dye and photothermal-converting toner, which is fabricated by a two-step printing process. The rewritable paper demonstrates excellent rewriting performances (legible time > 6 months and reversibility > 100 times). The thermochromic effect is based on a temperature-driven phase change mechanism, accompanied by a lactone ring tautomerism of crystal violet lactone. The color of the rewritable paper rapidly changes from blue to colorlessness when the temperature is higher than 65 C, and the colorless state can be maintained at room temperature. The color returns to blue when the temperature is lower than -10 C. By using an electrothermal pen, a thermal printer, and near infrared (NIR) light, characters and images with high resolution can be handwritten, thermal-printed, and photoprinted on the rewritable paper. The written/printed information can be cleaned under lower temperature or can be quickly erased by NIR light. This rewritable paper is easy for large-scale production and will have promising opportunities in practical applications, such as long-lasting information recording and reading, rewritable label, reprintable displays, and so on.

Biomass gasification based electricity generation systems are emerging as an important component of the decentralised energy supply systems in rural India. Each type of gasifier has different reaction conditions, temperature, residence time, pressure, feedstock, reactor design, and therefore the tar and particulate matter (PM) compositions and concentrations are found to vary. A field study was conducted on a 35 kWe downdraft gasifier to measure and characterize the tar in producer gas using GC-MS, for rice husk and pine needles as the two biomass feeds. Use of water-based scrubbers for removal of tar and PM is prevalent, however it is often the case that such clean-up is not adequate for meeting the engine manufacturers? requirements for the quality of intake gas. Limited attempts have been reported for the use of organic solvent based gas cleaning in small scale downdraft gasifiers in the range 15?50 kWe. In the present work, toluene, naphthalene and phenol were selected as representative compounds of tar, and methyl oleate was selected to represent biodiesel as an organic solvent. A bench scale packed bed scrubber was designed for 95% removal of toluene. An 86?97% removal of toluene from the gas stream was achieved, and similar results were obtained for phenol and naphthalene. Further experiments were carried out with actual producer gas from a 1 kWe downdraft wood gasifier. Pongamia pinnata based biodiesel was used as the solvent, and 88?92% of the tar removal from the producer gas stream was achievable.

The SAR (structure activity relationship) based on the derivatives of compound 8 was further explored on recombinant AC2 cells and compound 73 was found to be the most active agonist with the EC50 of 90 nM, which is 160-fold more potent than the reported agonist Forskolin and could selectively activate AC2 to inhibit the expression of Interleukin-6. The discovery of a new class of AC2-selective agonists would provide a novel chemical probe to study the physiological function of AC2.

The inclusion of the crystal violet lactone dye increases transition temperatures of all phases and strengthens the alpha phase. The benzyl 4-hydroxybenzoate developer causes opposite effects and prevents the appearance of the alpha phase. These consequences combine in ternary composites, where lower transition temperatures were obtained as in the solvent, but the alpha phase is formed more likely as expected due to the presence of the developer. The hydration of the composite strengthens its crystalline network, but makes alpha phase more unstable. The thermal properties were related to the temperature-dependent colour. Composites with well-resolved alpha and beta phases at cooling show a typical colour hysteresis. If only weak alpha phase or none at all was found in DSC curves, the colour hysteresis has an unusual shape with heating and cooling curves crossing each other. The hydration of the composite changes the colorimetric properties in accordance with the relation found for anhydrous composite. More conclusions and interrelations between the two properties require application of other analytical methods.
