The mixture was allowed to warm to room temperature and stirred for 1 hour. Water (1.5 ml) was cautiously added dropwise followed by 10% aqueous sodium hydroxide (1.5 ml) and, finally, water (4.5 ml). The mixture was filtered and the inorganic salts washed with ethyl acetate (2*50 ml). The filtrate and washings were combined and concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound as an oil, yield 3.3 g. 1 H N.m.r. (CHCl3) delta=7.10 (s, 1H); 7.00 (d, 1H); 6.75 (m, 1H); 4.65-4.55 (m, 2H); 3.90-3.75 (m, 2H); 3.30-3.15 (m, 2H); 2.90-2.80 (m, 2H); 1.85-1.75 (brs, 1H) ppm.
