High thermally stable thermosetting polyimides derived from a carborane-containing tetramine

In this study, we report the preparation of thermosetting polyimides (PIs) based on carborane-containing tetramine and their characterizations. The novel tetramine 1,2-bis(4-(3,5-diaminobenzoic acid phenyl ester))carborane (CBNH) was synthesized and characterized firstly. Then, it was used in the preparation of two kinds of branched imide oligomers via the method of thermal imidization. The cure behavior of the obtained phenylethynyl-terminated oligomers was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry. The effect of carborane substituent on the thermal properties of PIs was studied by comparing with a similar structure without the carborane group. The thermal properties of PIs and carbon fiber/PI composites were investigated by thermal gravimetric analysis and dynamic mechanical analysis, respectively. Because of the introduction of high steric hindrance of carborane structure, the resulting thermosets and carbon fiber/PI composites had excellent thermal property with a high char yield at 800C (>66.5%) and a high glass transition temperature (up to 500C), respectively.

The first example of the palladium-catalyzed tandem addition/cyclization of 2-(2-acylphenoxy)acetonitriles with arylboronic acids has been developed, providing a new strategy for the synthesis of 2-aroyl benzofurans with excellent chemoselectivity and wide functional group compatibility. Preliminary mechanistic experiments indicate that this tandem process involves sequential nucleophilic addition generating 2-(2-acylphenoxy)-1-phenylethan-1-one followed by an intramolecular cyclization. This methodology has also been applied to the synthesis of 2-aroyl indoles and the potent CYP19 inhibitor 1-(benzofuran-2-yl(phenyl)methyl)-1H-1,2,4-triazole.

Fabrication of PEI grafted Fe3O4/SiO2/P(GMA-co-EGDMA) nanoparticle anchored palladium nanocatalyst and its application in Sonogashira cross-coupling reactions

Novel magnetic Fe3O4/SiO2/P(GMA-co-EGDMA) composite nanoparticles grafted with hyperbranched/linear polyethylenimine ligands were fabricated. Subsequently, nano palladium was effectively anchored on this carrier through complexation between Pd2+ ions and multifunctional organic ligands, then a novel supported Pd nanoparticle catalyst with good dispersion and high loading of Pd nanoparticles was successfully prepared after the following reduction process. Afterwards, the as-prepared supported Pd nanoparticle catalyst was characterized by SEM, TEM, XRD, FTIR, TG and ICP-AES. Ultimately, the catalytic performance of the supported Pd nanoparticle catalyst was investigated by catalysing the Sonogashira cross-coupling reaction between aryl halides and arylacetylene. Research shows that the novel supported Pd nanoparticle catalyst exhibits very superior catalytic activity in catalysing the Sonogashira cross-coupling reaction between aryl halides and arylacetylene, even in the absence of the cocatalyst (CuI), and the side reaction producing the by-product (1,3-diyne) can be inhibited effectively. In addition, this supported Pd nanoparticle catalyst exhibits stable recovery and high catalytic activity, for it can be effectively reused 8 times without obvious loss of catalytic activity. Furthermore, the yields of the target products of the Sonogashira cross-coupling reaction between iodobenzene and phenylacetylene, 3-aminophenylacetylene and 4-(ethynyl)phthalic anhydride can reach approximately 79%, 78% and 95% after this novel supported Pd nanoparticle catalyst has been used eight times, respectively.

The improved chiral synthesis of the selective dopamine D3 receptor (D3R) antagonist (R)-N-(4-(4-(2,3-dichlorophenyl)piperazin-1-yl)-3-hydroxybutyl)1H- indole-2-carboxamide ((R)-PG648) is described. The same chiral secondary alcohol intermediate was used to prepare the enantiomers of a 3-F-benzofuranyl analogue, BAK 2-66. The absolute configurations of the 3-F enantiomers were assigned from their X-ray crystal structures that confirmed retention of configuration during fluorination with N,N-diethylaminosulfur trifluoride (DAST). (R)-BAK2-66 showed higher D3R affinity and selectivity than its (S)-enantiomer; however, it had lower D3R affinity and enantioselectivity than (R)-PG648. An overview of bio-oil upgrading with high hydrogen-containing feedstocks to produce transportation fuels: Chemistry, catalysts, and engineering

As an alternative to increasingly depleted traditional petroleum fuel, bio-oil has many advantages: high energy density, flexibility, easy storage and transportation. Nevertheless, bio-oil also presents some unwanted characteristics such as high viscosity, acidity, oxygen content and chemical instability. The process of bio-oil upgrading is necessary before utilization as transportation fuels. In addition, the bio-oil has low effective hydrogen/carbon molar ratio (H/Ceff) which may lead to coke formation and hence deactivation of the catalyst during the upgrading process. Therefore, it seemed that co-refining of biooil with other higher hydrogen-containing feedstocks is necessary. This paper provides a broad review of the bio-oil upgrading with high hydrogen-containing feedstocks to produce transportation fuels: chemistry, catalyst, and engineering research aspects were discussed. The different thermochemical conversion routes to produce bio-oil and its physical-chemical properties are discussed firstly. Then the bio-oil upgrading research using traditional technologies and common catalysts that emerged in recent years are briefly reviewed. Furthermore, the applications of high H/Ceff feedstock to produce high-quality of bio-oil are also discussed. Moreover, the emphasis is placed on co-refining technologies to produce transportation fuels. The processes of co-refining bio-oil and vacuum gas oil in fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) unit for transportation fuels from laboratory scale to pilot scale are also covered in this review. Co-refining technology makes it possible for commercial applications of bio-oil. Finally, some suggestions and prospects are put forward.
