The anal. of tri(p-dimethylaminophenyl)benzoic acid and trip-dimethylaminophenyl) methane with IR and NMR is described. They are intermediate and byproduct of crystal violet lactone (CVL) while it was synthesized. The main groups of both intermediate and byproduct were indicated by IR, and the mol. structures were thoroughly studied according to the chem. shift and coupling constant of 1H and 13C-NMR. Comparing with Sadder standard atlas, it is indicated that the method is scientific and reasonable. The results are useful to the research of synthesis of CVL.
