The behavior of phenol red, bromophenol red, bromophenol blue, thymol blue, phenolphthalein, thymolphthalein, α-naphtholphthalein, and erythrosine in H2NCH2CH2NH2 (I)-MeOH and Et2NH-MeOH solutions was studied at 293 K by IR and visible spectrophotometry. The basicity of binary solvent mixtures was examined in relation to the ratio of the conjugated ionic indicator forms. Basicity at low concentrations of I is enhanced as a result of intermol. interactions with MeOH. Solvatochromic effects are also discussed.
