The objective of this paper is to study the chem. constituents of dried whole plants of Trifolium pratense L. Compounds were isolated and purified repeatedly by silica gel, Sephadex LH-20 and ODS column chromatog. and preparative TLC, and their chem. structures were elucidated by their physicochem. properties and spectral anal. The results showed that sixteen compounds were obtained and identified as maackiain (1), quercetin (2), pinitol (3), salicylic acid (4), calycosin-7-O-β-D-glucoside (1), formononetin (6), trifolirhizin (7), sissotrin (8), daidzin (9), genistin (10), irilone (11), biochanin A (12), genistein (13), pratensein (14), daidzein (15), and ononin (16). It has been concluded that compounds 3 and 4 are isolated from this plant for the first time.
